Tips for better Nepali speech to text

  • Use a quiet room and hold the phone or microphone close — background noise is the most common cause of wrong words.
  • Speak in short, complete sentences and pause briefly between them.
  • Add punctuation by typing it in the box — the recognizer writes the words, but rarely commas or the पूर्णविराम (।).
  • You can type or correct words in the box at any time, even while it is listening — new speech is added at the end.
  • Chrome, on Android or on a computer, gives the best Nepali results.

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no limit on how much you dictate and no app to install.

How do I type in Nepali by voice?

Which browsers support Nepali speech to text?

Google Chrome on Android, Windows, Mac and Linux works best. Microsoft Edge and Safari have speech recognition too, though how well they understand Nepali varies. Firefox has none yet, so the page says so there instead of showing the microphone.

Does it work on mobile phones?

Yes. On an Android phone use Chrome; on an iPhone use Safari or Chrome. The page is made for phones, with the big microphone right under the text.

Is my voice recorded or saved?

We don't record or keep your voice. Your browser's own speech service turns it into text (in Chrome that is Google's), and the text stays in your browser on this device until you clear it.

Can I get the text in Preeti font?

Yes. Use Copy → Copy as Preeti to paste it into documents set in Preeti, or download a Word file. For Facebook, messages and the web, copy it as Unicode.

Can I speak in English too?

Yes. Switch the language to English above the box and the same microphone writes English instead.

Does it need an internet connection?

Usually yes — most browsers send the sound to their speech service to recognise it, so voice typing stops when you are offline.
